Mt Airy Pa Casino Review
I broke the law the other day. I flew into Newark for a writer’s convention and did
the meet and greet thing for the hundredth time. I just wasn’t feeling it. I decided to skip out early and take a
drive in the country.
Not being very familiar with the area, or even having any idea if there was such a
thing as “countryside” remotely close to such a metropolis as Newark, NJ. I just hopped on route 80 and began to
drive.
I was quickly surprised by the fact that less than 60 minutes later I was in the
Poconos. Beautiful hills and country surrounded me everywhere.
It was a beautiful drive even though it was pretty late in the day. Being a city
fella I started to wonder if it would be such a good idea to stay overnight in the country, not knowing what to
expect really. That’s when it happened. I broke the law. I slowed to a stop on the shoulder of route 80 and began
to drive in reverse.
Had I seen what I thought I had seen? Sure enough, plain as say there was a sign that
read, “Mount Airy Resort and Casino”. A few minutes later and there I was, smack dab in the middle of the Pocono
Mountains at one of the most luxurious hotels I had ever stayed in.
I decided to pull out all the stops. I told the friendly front desk clerk to set me
up with a top notch suite. She suggested the Grand King Suite. “I’ll take it.” WOW! As I entered the room I was
amazed at the spacious living room and granite wet bar.
“This is perfect I told the bellman” with a slight nod and bow he told me to have a
fantastic stay at the Mount Airy Resort and Casino and that there was wireless internet if I needed it, with a
gesture towards my computer bag he placed on the pillow top bed. I wouldn’t be needing the internet tonight, no
online facebook poker for me.
I wanted to shower before I headed down stairs for a bite to eat. I decided to skip
the shower when I saw the enormous granite and porcelain tub. I was in no hurry; a good long soak would be just the
ticket.
Refreshed and dressed I headed down for dinner. Descions decisions, I had to choose
from the casual yet luxurious Red Steakhouse, the wonderful smelling Italian Le Sorelle Cucina, a snazzy 50’s diner
called Betty’s Diner or The Buffet.
I chose the latter. And to be honest I have to complain, I had not planned on
visiting their state of the art fitness center but with so many delicacies and more than 30 sinful deserts to
choose from, I was forced into a vigorous cardio the next morning before I checked out.
The night was young and I was determined to take my chances with the many slots and
electronic table games. I was not disappointed. Over all I left with more than I walked in with. I also left with
the knowledge that when I got home I would be suggesting a trip to the Poconos for vacation to my wife. There were
too many things left to do. One thing on my list was to play some golf in the fresh mountain air.
Sitting in the first class cabin next to a haggard looking business man, I felt
refreshed and happy. “Business bring you to Newark?” he asked. “Writers conference.” I replied. With a once over
look and an envious smirk he exclaimed, “looks like it went well.”
With a chuckle I answered this tired man. “Not a clue, but if you get the chance to
head up to Mount Airy Casino Resort in the Poconos, I strongly suggest it.”
